In a clinical study conducted in the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 flu seasons in approximately 32,000 adults aged 65+, the trivalent formulation of Fluzone High-Dose proved to be 24% more effective at preventing the flu than standard-dose Fluzone® (Influenza Vaccine).
Compared to Fluzone, the most common side effects were slightly more frequent and included pain where you got the shot, muscle pain, tiredness, and headache.

The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) selected Fluzone High-Dose as a preferred vaccine for people 65+ over regular flu shots.‡§
‡In August 2023, the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices issued a preferential recommendation for the use of Fluzone High-Dose over unadjuvanted standard-dose flu vaccines in adults 65+.
